The Sun King tent is up and heated (see image to right). Bring 434 of your closest friends to a great party. great beer, great bands, and great wine for eleven nights in a row in celebration of Super Bowl.

We have finalized the initial wine list:
$5 glass pours:

- Santa Julia Reserve Pinot Noir

- Tamarack Cellars Chardonnay
- Zuccardi Serie A Malbec
- Powers Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon

We will listen to your feedback and modify the list as needed every couple days. Please stop by our end of the tent to taste all of these wines for free.

2012 and Super Bowl in Indy!

Graybull Wines celebrated our 5th year of business in 2011 with consistent sales growth. In December, we supported a number of additional events, tastings, staff trainings, and restaurant openings at venues such as Chef JJ's Backyard, Kahn's Fine Wines and Liquors, Fogo de Chao, Mass Ave Wine Shoppe, Alabama Liquors, Dawson's Too (Brownsburg), Pearl Bistro, and Hillview Country Club.

As we start out 2012 we are focused on Super Bowl preparations in Central Indiana. Santa Julia Wines and Graybull will be sponsoring a wine bar within the Locals Underground tent at Sun King Brewery from January 26th - February 5th. More details will be released but here are a couple key links:

We will be featuring at least 5 wines at $5/glass and 5 wines at $10/glass all of which will compliment Chef JJ's Big Green Bistro and Sun King's great locally produced beer. We will change our selections as needed and would love your feedback on what you want to drink.

As we enter each year we always review our portfolio and try to make sure we are focused on the fastest growing wine regions and bringing fresh new brands to the Indiana market. We are fortunate and pleased to represent Santa Julia/Zuccardi from Argentina (fastest growing wine region). This year we will be adding new New Zealand Sauvignon Blancs from Barker's Marque (2nd fastest growing wine region) and big bold Napa reds from Ramian Estates, and wines from a relatively new wine region in California from Hannah Nicole (domestic wines are growing faster than imported wines). We are open to considering additional affordable domestic brands (e.g. < $20/bottle retail) so if you have any recommendations please contact us.

November 9th - 6-8pm - Zuccardi wine dinner with Trader's Point Creamery in Indianapolis. Meet the national sales manager, sample, pair with their great food, and purchase wines at time of event!

November 16th - 5-8pm - German wine tasting at Kahn's Fine Wines North Willow store

Tastings we supported since August:

September 13th - Baesler's Market in Terra Haute in conjunction with their local Susan Komen breast cancer foundation - tasted 12 wines at 2 tables to over 250 people.
September 14th - Ripple Inn in Broadripple - tasted 6 wines now listed on their revised wine list with about 30 patrons.
September 15h - Mass Ave Wine Shoppe - tasted 4 Ortman Family Vineyards wines with Ron Rawlinson the national sales manager of Ortman.
September 29th - Kahn's Fine Wines - South American consumer tasting for over 200 people featuring Santa Julia and Zuccardi wines.
October 1st - donated a Calcu Cabernet blend 3 liter Magnum bottle for a local Cystic Fibrosis fundraising event in conjunction with The Ripple Inn
October 8th - Provided the wine tent at Trader's Point Creamery's Oktoberfest which supports the Trader's Point Historic Foundation. This event has raised over $35,000 for this local preservation group and we are proud to participate. Over 4000 people attend this year!
October 14th - Trail Inn Liquors in Valpo. Tiamo Pinot Grigio and La Fiera Rosso Dolce (our most popular wine the last 6 weeks)

We just finished some great tastings this week:

Monday, December 6th - Featured 5 Israeli wines at Kahn's Willow Lake store including two Golan Heights winery wines new to Indiana this fall (Golan Cabernet and Chardonnay).
Wednesday, December 8th - Featured 2 of our holiday sparklers at Goose the Market. The Fitz-Ritter Sparkling Riesling Sekt was one of the top 4 out of 20 based on consumer feedback according to the Goose (refer to their Dec. 9th post: http://goosethemarket.blogspot.com/ )
Friday, December 10th - Featured 5 wines at Alabama Liquors with the clear winners of the night being the 92 point Zuccardi Zeta Malbec-Tempranillo blend and Standing Stone Vineyards Vidal Ice.

New gourmet grocery and wine store near Geist!

Tasteful Times is opening this week on the northeast corner of 116th and Olio Road near Geist Reservoir. They will be featuring great gourmet foods, hard to find cooking ingredients and nearly 200 different small estate and boutique style wines. Please support this new locally owned store and their great products!

Late August wine tastings

We actually are supporting two wine tastings next Tuesday, August 24th. The first is at Mass Ave Wine Shoppe from 5:30-7:00 in downtown Indy and the 2nd is at The Cellar at G. Simone's at 112 Main Street in Zionsville (sister restaurant to Plum's Upper Room) from 6:30-8:30. Both are free to the public and we will taste 4-6 wines at both.

The logistics overlap but the G. Simone's event will be started by Cork and Cracker's Heather and Rebecca who's stor,e unfortunately, burned down in Fishers about 2 months ago due to a lightening strike. They are hoping to re-build and re-open before the holidays and this is one way they want to continue to engage their customers and promote some of the great wines they offer.

Chef JJ's August 19, 2010 Grill and Swill

Graybull Wines will one again be providing wine with some excellent food pairings this Thursday, August 19th at Chef JJ's Backyard Grill in Broadripple. Their quarterly Grill and Swill is sold out once again. We plan to taste some great unique wines that pair well with their all grilled menu that evening. Among the wines is Domaine Granajolo, a Corsican white made from Vermentino, Biokult Gruner Veltliner, Cooper Mountain Pinot Gris, and Moulin de Vissandre (Grenache-Carignan red blend). To wrap up the evening the participants will be able to choose which Cabernet Sauvignon will be poured at Chef JJ's for the rest of the fall and winter. They will be tasting and choosing between Agustino's (Chile) and Santa Julia (Argentina).

Vampire Wines Indiana Distribution

We don't distribute just organically certified wines. We focus on small estate boutique style wines of great value and occasionally wines with eye catching labels. A few years ago we became the statewide Indiana distributor of Vampire and Dracula wines. Most of the sales traditionally occurred prior to Halloween, however, with the huge number of vampire related movies and television shows and the great quality of the wine, this brand has now become one of the most requested brands based on the number of information and pricing requests we receive from liquor and wine retailers. For those that haven't tried Vampire, they come in all major grape varieties (Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, Cabernet, Merlot, and Pinot Noir) and are sourced from the central coast of California. If you are interested in purchasing these wines just send an email and we will direct you to the nearest location.

February 2010 planned tastings

February is a great month to break out of the winter grind and find some local wine tastings or events.

We will start on February 2nd from 5:30-7:00 at Mass Ave Wine Shoppe's weekly tasting. We will have a handful of new wines to taste including the affordable LaMarouette Chardonnay and Cabernet that happens to be organically certified and some great Italian Pinot Grigio and Pinot Noir easy drinkers under the Gondolier label that have great depth for the price.

For the fourth year in a row we will be sponsoring a table at the WFYI Indy Winefest held from 6-9pm on Friday, February 5th. This is the 11th annual event hosted by WFYI and is Indy's premier celebration featuring over 400 fine wines from wineries and distributors. This year's retail sponsor is Kahn's Fine Wine and Spirits. Proceeds from the event will benefit WFYI Public Broadcasting's programming and educational outreach services. More info can be found at:

The seven wines we will be offering at the Winefest include: Santa Julia Pinot Grigio; Stellar Organics Reserve Chardonnay; JanKris Sparkling Peach; Girasole Pinot Noir; Etim Seleccion Spanish red blend; Pargue II super-Chilean red blend; and Ernst Bretz Riesling Eiswein. The last four items were rated 90+ points by major wine critics and all seven retail for $7-$20/bottle.

We will be adding 2-3 more events for the end of February and then will start March with an Argentina wine tasting at Payless Liquors Carmel store (reservations required - call Tom @ 317-815-5641).

Our 2nd tasting this week will be at Alabama Liquors at 947 North Alabama in downtown Indianapolis. The weekly event is from 5:30-7:00 every Friday. We will be tasting a couple of great easy drinking wines under the Colombelle label from Gascogne France along with 3-4 other South American wines. If you haven't been to this shop please check it out. The safety glass is intimidating (it's a carryover from the 70's and 80's when the downtown area wasn't so nice) but once you discover they have a great back room wine cellar it will be worth it.

We are tasting some interesting small bottle format wines including Perlage Prosecco, Santa Julia Chardonnay and Malbec, and Santanegro Monastrell all in 187ml or 375ml formats. We will be tasting the Tercos Malbec (from the father of Argentina Malbec), Santa Julia Torrontes (Argentina beautiful spicy floral white), and 4 other unique small production wines.

Trader's Point Creamery 2009 Octoberfest

This year the Creamery will be holding their 3rd annual Octoberfest on Sunday, October 18, 2009. We've had fantastic weather the last two years and have had literally thousands show up to enjoy the food, beer, Polka by Polka Boys, and of course wine. The Creamery now holds a caterers permit so we should be able to provide tastings throughout the farm instead of getting placed in a corner of the barn. We are really excited to support the Creamery this year as we have added over 15 estate German wines to our portfolio. At this event we will be tasting and selling Fritz-Zimmer Liebfraulmilch, Rudolf Muller Shine Riesling, and Weingut Manfred Binz Dornfelder (dry red).

These wines are not certified organic as there are very few organic German wines on the market - the certification process takes ten years in Germany. In speaking directly with the winemakers though, many would qualify for the ever debatable "sustainable" label - they do minimize synthetic chemicals and they do have great respect for the land (as many of their families have lived on the land for centuries).

Payless Liquors Carmel Indiana Sept 24th 2009 tasting

I will be at a wine tasting at Payless Liquors (726 Adams Street, Carmel) on Thursday night September 24, 2009. We will be tasting at least six wines from organically certified, biodynamic, sustainable, and Fairtrade vineyards and wineries. We will talk about the different certification processes and why when a winery claims they are sustainable doesn't always mean a whole lot. If you think organic wines are not good quality please show up and get an education. The tasting is free but the store requests you reserve a spot so call them at 317-815-5641. The time for the tasting is 6:30-8:00pm.

Pairings - Sangiovese Restaurant Sept 2, 2009

We will be at Sangiovese Restaurant on Wednesday, September 2, 2009 for the weekly wine tasting that is done in cooperation with Pairings gourmet food and wine shop. The wines to be tasted will be finalized this week. The tasting runs from 5:30-7:00 and address is 4110 East 82nd in Indy.

We will be sampling several new wines in our portfolio at the Trader's Point Creamery on Indy's northwest side this Thursday, July 30, 2009 from 5:30-9:30. This is one of the midwest's most unique restaurants and settings - check out their website at: http://www.traderspointcreamery.com/ An acoustic band and selection of casual food will be available. Wines that will be tasted include La Fortuna Sauvignon Blanc, Bollig-Lehnert Riesling, Madonna Pinot Grigio, Tercos Malbec, Stellar Organics Pinotage, and Apaltagua Envero Carmenere. We will finish off the evening with a delicous Rudolf Muller Eiswein. 4 of these 7 have not ever been tasted at an Indiana public consumer event as they are so new to the Indiana market.

All north end Mass Ave shops are open through the construction process of the Cultural Trail. Please support the retailers up there - there is plenty of parking on side streets.

Whole Foods Wine Tasting

I'll be at the Whole Foods Indianapolis Nora store on Saturday, July 18, from noon until 4pm. I'll be showcasing a selection of easy drinking summer wines, including Badger Mountain organic box wines, Rudolph Muller Riesling, Colombelle Red, and Araucano Carmenere(sustainable). These are all great picks for an al fresco dinner party, or quiet evening at home on the porch. Come taste and enjoy!
